Shakti Peeth Purnagiri:
At a height of 3000 mts. above sea level, Purnagiri is 20 kms. from Tanakpur. Purnagiri temple is visited throughout the year by  devotees   from all parts   of  the country,  who come here in large numbers, particularly during Chaitra Navratri in the month of March  - April. The surrounding valleys echo with the holy chantings of the devotees climbing up to the top for darshan, creating an atmosphere of spirituality. From Purnagiri, also known as Punyagiri, the river Kali descends into the plains and is known as Sharda. For visiting this shrine one can go upto Thuligaarh by vehicle. From this place one has to trek (the road is under construction upto Tunyas ). After the ascent of Bans ki Charhai comes Awalakhan (the new name is Hanuman Chatti).The south - western part of 'Punya Parvat' can be seen from this place. Another ascent ends at the TRC of Tanki. The region of temporary shops and residential huts start from this place upto Tunyas. From the highest point (the temple) of Purnagiri hill the pilgrim can see the expanse of Kali, its islands, the township of Tanakpur and a few Nepali villages. The old Buram Deo Mandi is very close to Purnagiri. From Tanakpur or Purnagiri it is possible to trek to Tamli and even to Jhulaghat along the Kali river. Purnagiri Temple 15 km from tanakpur. Well connected by bus and private taxis.
 
Adya Shakti Peeth, Boom :
Boom: a place near on the way to purnagiri, famous for its white sand beach/river bank where pilgrims take a holy dip in river Sharda, Banbasa:an NHPC electricity plant.
 
Vivekananda Ashram, Shyamlatal :
1500 mts. above sea level, Shyamlatal is 132 kms. from Pithoragarh and 56 kms. from Champawat. Swami Vivekanand Ashram is located here at the bank of the lake. The blue colored lake of Shyamlatal is spread over an area of about one & a half sq. km. This place has some ruins dating back to the days of the early Chand rulers and others which were associated with the Pandavas. Shyamlatal is also famous for its Jhula fair. Different variety of roses also attract the travelers here.
 
Tanakpur Power Plant:
NHPC has set up a Hydro Power Station on Sharda river at Tanakpur. The Tanakpur Power Plant is the first major operational run-of-the-river 120 MW Power Station  located 5 km down stream of Brahmadeo in the Sharda Valley. Tanakpur Power Station  is the first hydel project commissioned by the NHPC in the year 1992-93 in the Sharda Valley. Power from this project is now is being supplied to neighbouring country Nepal. This marks the beginning of harnessing the hydro power potential of Sarda River Basin.
 
Sharda Ghat:
This Ghat, well known as Ma Purnagiri Sharda Ghat, is located near the bus stand in Tanakpur. It is here that people bathe to cleanse themselves before visiting the revered Ma Purnagiri shrine which is close to the town. This Ghat is also utilized for performing Hindu religions ceremonies like 'Mundan' (ceremonial shaving of child's first hair). For the locals, this Ghat also serves as a place of socialization. People come here to relax and spend time with friends. Hawkers are seen selling delicious 'chaat' along with other traditional snacks, adding to the joy of the visit.
 
Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple :
This is a famous temple in Tanakpur, dedicated to Lord Shiva in his panchmukhi or five faced form. You can visit the temple for aarti at 7:30 Am and 7:30 Pm on all days.

Purani Jama Masjid
Built around 1886 while the road to Champawat was being constructed, this is a mosque located on the banks of river Sharda, close to the bridge to Nepal.

Tanakpur Methodist Church
This church was built in 1988 with donations from the Parish. It is today the only church in the area within the radius of about 25 Km.

Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sahib
This Gurudwara serves as an important resting point for the pilgrims en route Sri Ritha Sahib which is an important Sikh pilgrimage.
